Watchers

Here is something I've been writing on and off for awhile. Its not as long as I wish, but its in the process of getting there. I'm not fully finished with chapter two, so I won't post that until it is done. If you see anything that needs fixing please say something. c: I'm sure no one will post 'cause there's no one knows I'm here. I think... So here is Chapter One.

* * *

My calves were starting to ache from the fast pace I was running at. It was probably ten already, it was hard to tell when winter came. Dark usually came around five now and the sky was usually starless with all the street- and houselights on, though few stars protruded from the man-made lights. My dad and step mom, Katherine, would probably be up waiting to lecture me about how the streets are not safe for a fifteen-year-old girl to wander after dark. And after curfew, which is nine-thirty, and I'm half an hour late. It's not fully my fault for my lateness, though. Clay, my best friend since sixth grade, wanted me to "quickly" review him once again for the history test we'll have tomorrow, which took us twenty more minutes to "quickly" review.
" Please, Summer. Just review me quickly and you can go," Clay had begged me earlier as I gathered my bag and my textbooks plus all the snacks I got for us to eat as we studied this boring stuff.
"I have to get home," I told him, but I'm sure it went in one ear and right out the other. "Can't I help you review tomorrow at lunch? You don't take history until after lunch." I looked at him, I was ready to walk home, which was several blocks away and I didn't want to call my 'rents at the time to pick me up, they didn't want me to come over in the first place. Clay was one of those "bad boys" who doesn't deserve friends or anything else other than a jail cell.  But he wasn't and isn't a bad boy. Well, fully. He just has a few issues he had to fix, such as his temper, and his habit of stealing, and his daily fist fights with obnoxious people at school. And I'm helping him get better.
He gave me puppy dog eyes that I could turn down from everyone in a blink of an eye, except him. I exhaled with a loud huff and set my stuff down by his bedroom door.
After we got done studying he still wasn't totally satisfied with his knowledge of the history test to come, but I'm sure he'd pass.
I left his house after much whisper-arguing since his grandparents went to sleep hours ago. I was surprised by the first time I ever went over to his house and they let us be in his room with the door shut and they wouldn't ever eavesdrop. You could tell if someone walked past his room because the floor always creaked when you'd walk near it. We like that they trusted us. And they gave us privacy, though we would never do anything, we would just talk about very deep things. Like his parents, my mom, and it wasn't for other ears to hear, just us. We usually were called a couple, though we told everyone different. It's just that we are so alike that we just click so well.

I quickly threw a glance over my shoulder; I could swear I heard someone following me a few minutes ago. I slowed my sprint down rapidly to a light jog then came to a complete stop. Turning around, my heart's beating was going off the charts as adrenaline pumped through my veins.
"Hello?" I called out with a hoarse voice that got caught in my throat. It echoed quickly down the dark, deserted street. "Is anybody there?" I clenched my fists just in case I'd have to defend myself. Clay taught me a few tricks to keep attackers at bay after my first fight with Charlie Roberts, a fat kid that cut in front of me in the lunch line in sixth grade. That's how Clay and I met.
My pulse drumming in my ears made it hard to hear, but my eyes worked perfectly well, but there was nothing to see. "He-" I was about to call out again, but a dark shadow emerged from the alley way about ten feet away from me.
"Good evening, Summer Daniels," a man's deep voice greeted. He slowly, but gracefully, walked towards me and his profile was caught in the streetlight and strangely I wasn't afraid anymore. The man was a little over six feet tall, had an athletic build, and was dressed up in a dark gray cloak with black pants; his shirt was covered by his cloak. The hood of the cloak shadowed his head, but he quickly removed it, revealing a young man's face. He looked in his early twenties, though his eyes had a wise look to them that he knew more that he was letting on. Dark, curly hair fell around his fair face, with bright blue eyes fixed on me.
I unconsciously unclenched my fists as the man walked right up to me.
"How have you been?" He asked gently. I opened my mouth, but shut it. That's not really the words I was excepting from a stranger. His eyes prompted me to answer, but I didn't know how I have been. I just knew I was going to be grounded if I lingered here anymore.
"Good, I guess," I answered awkwardly. "But I have to get home or I'll be grounded for the next millennium." I started to back away, but he didn't seem to notice.
"And why is that?" He asked.
"Because I'm way past curf-" I stopped myself. Why was I explaining to a total and complete stranger about my problems? I didn't even know his name. "Excuse me for asking, but how is it that you know my name but I don't know yours. Or even who the heck you are?"
"I'm terribly sorry, Summer," he said, mentioning my name again. "My name is Darnell Dusaro."
I nodded, his name didn't ring any bells, but he seemed like he knew me.
"You seem like you know me…" I stated, though I was itching to get home. Oh, how much trouble I'll be in! For the first time Darnell looked away from me. I knew he was hiding something. No one ever turns away from someone unless they have something to hide.
"Yes…," he said slowly, nodding. He didn't say anything after that and I knew that he wasn't going to elaborate.
"Well, it was nice meeting you, Darnell." I turned around and began to speed walk to my house. I looked behind me, but saw that Darnell was out of sight. I was kind of sad, and furious. Why couldn't he have told me how he knew me? It always bugs me when someone knows you but doesn't tell you how they know you. Though this is my first time in this particular situation, but I've read about things like this in books and it always, always bugs me when they do that.
As I walked across the driveway to my house I suddenly remembered all the trouble I was going to be in. I groaned before opening the front door, no use in using the backdoor, one of THEM will probably be posted there. Disappearing into the dark house, I didn't have much time to think up an escape plan if things got a bit out of control.

Hello and welcome to my page! I'm in love with my username, by the way. So there's one odd thing about me!! ;)
I write, as you can see if you read my journal. I absolutely LOVE writing, though I get writer's block a lot, but it goes away soon enough. I have five animals. One pretty newfoundland/chow, three crazy cats, and one fluffy bunny! (Use to have TWO fluffy bunnies, but one ran away... :( )
And there's really nothing else about meself to share -thinks- Oh!
hehe, I can't draw worth crap, well I think I'm okay on the stick figure level so yeah, if I have any art up, it might be one of my friends that gave it to me or my brothers!

~~See ya 'round!
